The first project was a reworking of the Lacrimosa from the Mozart Requiem, which combined Mauritian/Diego Garcian rhythms and songs with the original Mozart composition. This took place at Ifield Community College on December 4th 2010, and was part of the 'Genius of Mozart' Season on Radio 3.
Although the workshops and preparation took place, the recording itself was prevented by heavy snow. This project was concluded in June 2011 in a joint performance of the Chagossian Lacrimosa with the West Sussex County Youth Orchestra in Chichester Cathedral (June 30th 2011).
The concerts included both shared and individual performances by each ensemble. The choir was also the subject of a feature in "Music Matters" with Tom Service, broadcast by BBC Radio 3 on Saturday 18th June 2011.
The Ifield Choir will travel up to the new BBC Media Centre at Salford Quays (Manchester) on October 15th to perform at a gala concert as part of the "Let the Peoples Sing" Competition, in which they were semi-finalists.
The choir broadcast live on Radio 3 from London's Roundhouse London as part of the Cultural Olympiad in the Voices Now Festival in March 2012. They opened a special broadcast of The Choir hosted by Aled Jones.
